Hi my name is Angel Sanchez Ortiz.  I was raised in a Christian home. For as long as I can remember, my parents have always trusted their faith to the creator of the Universe. Hence, my beginnings in music came from attending Sunday school and singing songs along other children in Church.

At the tender age of 8, my Mother noticed I had a knack for music. So, she signed me up to take piano lessons. I had advanced fairly quick through the first three John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano books for children. However, the guitar seemed to be more popular with the rest of kids and adults, thus it tickled my curiosity.

So there we were in the mid 1980s, where guitar heavy music styles such as rock, heavy metal, and pop were in vogue. It didn't take much time for me to switch over to the guitar. My parents were really strapped for cash in those days, but somehow they managed to buy a full size student Nylon String Classical Guitar for me on Christmas.

I was 9 years old, and carried a guitar that was three quarters as tall as I was with a fretboard wider than one of my legs. There was no money to pay for guitar lessons this time; thus, I had to learn on my own to play this wonderful instrument. I remember vividly how I would place my ear against the sound board of the guitar while strumming it and listening to the natural harmonics the instrument would produce.

I invested countless hours practicing and perfecting my skills as I really wanted to play with the Church praise team at the time. Unfortunately, I was too young to be treated seriously by any of the musicians, and quite frankly was not that good of a player either. My parents gave me words of encouragement and said "nothing good comes easy." As I was faced with this cruel reality, I understood that if I really wanted to do something I needed to put a lot of effort into it; hence I doubled my effort and practiced more.

Twenty five years later, I have had the opportunity to not only play but to direct a couple of Praise Teams throughout my travels. I perfected my guitar playing skills to the point where I can share with the world my knowledge of this instrument.

As a self-taught guitarist and a lifetime student of the guitar, I am always in search of new inspirations, melodies, techniques and sounds that can be created with this instrument. I truly hope that you enjoy my lessons, learn plenty and most importantly improve your guitar playing experience.

Thank You and God Bless!!
